Worth vs Value
Can someone explain me the difference between "worth" and "value" please?
Why is "this painting is worth 400€" and not "this painting values 400€"?

Hi Mattia!

Worth- is used to indicate how much something will cost or how much an item will sell for. Business related.
-That is why you say “ This painting is worth $200”

Value- doesn’t represent only money, it goes deeper than that. It represents the emotion you have towards that item, what it means to you, “how do you value it.” It also represents the historical background of that item.
-That is why you say “ I would like to determine the value of this painting.”

Hope this helps!! :)

worth is mostly used for monetary values and is the sum that an item can be expected to sell for.
value can be used in this context, but value is used to also express the amount of regards placed on someone.

the painting is worth $45,000 = what you can expect to pay what people will pay for it.
he/she/they are of great value to the company business= they add something that increase the companies worth.

the painting is valued at $54,000 = the painting is worth this amount this is what it sells for now.

so in your sentence they are the same, but with subtle differences in their usage, that are sometimes used.

the value of something is sometimes used to represent the amount of things you can expect in exchange for something.

so if i say "the painting is worth $54,000 dollars, that is what you must pay for it.
if i say the painting is valued at $54,000 dollars I may also be comparing it to a very expensive car.
sometimes people will say this in a conversation or for a valuation.
"the paintings is valued at $54,000 dollars the same as a Rolls royce car"
