I have more money than her. (than = preposition) I have more money than she does. (than = conjunction) However, if you read Shakespeare, or other noble writings, you might see: I have more money than she. (than = conjunction) It is grammatically correct, but then so is the other one (than her). You see, "than" can be considered a preposition here, and "her" always follows a preposition.

Eliot's answer is more helpful. It really depends on how you view "than" in the sentence. In spoken English, most people would probably say "than her" or "than she does." However, an example can illustrate the problem. "I like her more than him." In this example, the sentence could mean two things. You like her more than he likes her, or you like her more than you like him. For this reason, in written communication or to remove ambiguity, to convey the first meaning, you would say "I like her more than he (does)." Does someone have more money than her? Her = talks about possession and money is the possession that we're talking about in this case.

More money than "her" would be the answer. She is used more when you use it at the beginning of the sentence. "she mowes the lawn." But when referring to a third party you would use her if she is the object, and not the action doer. We call these passive and active sentences. When a noun does an action it is active, in which case, "she is used." When it is a passive sentence, the object has an action done to it. Ex. The MILK is being SERVED. The milk is having an action done to it. This is passive. Hope this helps :) Remember: action done to someting else = her, the person is actually doing the action = she.
