What's the difference between "Cominciare" and "Iniziare"in Italian? Thank you!

There is no difference at all, they both can be transitive or intransitive, and they mean the same thing: La lezione inizia/la lezione comincia (lesson begins) Inizio a scrivere/comincio a scrivere (I start to write) Look up fo some more possible meanings and uses in the dictionary links here below :) http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/cominciare/ http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/iniziare/

'cominciare' ed 'iniziare' are synonyms, but with 'iniziare' the subject of the sentence must be animated, while with 'cominciare' the subject of the sentence must be inanimate: -il professore inizia la lezione alle 16; -la lezione comincia alle 16.
