About grammar
1. 'She said she was coming over tonight.'
In this sentence, I was told using 'was' was grammatically correct. But I couldn't understand why native speakers would choose to use 'was' instead of 'is' if right now is in the afternoon and 'coming over' has not happened yet.
2. He promised me it was correct.
What if it's still correct now, doesn't using 'was' sound like it's not correct anymore?
