If something or someone 'makes it' for you (in this context) it means they or it made the experience special or good for you. The 'it' refers to the experience. You are emphasising that that person or thing was the best thing about the experience. Similarly if the restaurant review was positive, this person is saying "The food did it for me" = above everything else, the food is what made the experience so great for me. However if it was negative the person may have listed all of the bad things about the experience but then ended it with "it was the food that did it for me" = the food was the worst thing, the 'last straw' to quote another English idiom!
