Being "smart" can be physical appearance or intelligence/cunning. It can also have less common meanings - if something "smarts", it hurts. Being "clever" is intelligence/cunning. Sometimes people might try to draw a finer distinction between "intelligent", "clever" and "smart", using some of those words to mean academic ability or ability to perform well at school or in exams, and other words to mean being streetwise or having common sense. But these distinctions are not applied consistently.

Clever might be to talk about human ability or animals. Smart is more commonly, including human animals and stuffs. Such as we say Smart phone or Smart equipments, robots, arms... Sorry if i say something wrong. Sincerely

Very similar meaning, but I feel like smart is typically used to describe someone who is good at school subjects such as math, science or history. Whereas clever feels like it is more often used to describe someone who is able to think of creative solutions to problems or figure our difficult things quickly. This is just my opinion based on American English. Other English speakers may use them a bit differently :)
