I'm a retired programmer, an experienced British English tutor, and the author of "How to Go Up a Band in IELTS."
With my background in IT and a gentle and patient teaching style, I've assisted many non-native speakers in improving their communication abilities before moving to Canada, Australia, and the UK or studying there.
I have a Master's in IT and a level 5 certificate in teaching English to speakers of foreign languages. The British Council taught me to teach IELTS. I have been president of both Gloucester and Cheltenham Speakers public speaking clubs.

My teaching style is patient and kind. I use my varied experience as a software engineer, charity worker and public speaking group leader, along with extensive training in IELTS, a CERT EDI TEFL level 5 certificate, and a native British accent not related to any particular region of Britain to create great learning experiences for my students. I focus on practical skills.

Over the last couple of months, Kate has been teaching me how to effectively structure Task 1 and Task 2 essays for IELTS. This was my last class with Kate, and I must say she is absolutely wonderful. She takes the time to explain things like grammatical structures with creative examples and different perspectives, making everything easier to understand. I mainly practiced writing and speaking with her, and she provided excellent tips that are incredibly useful for the IELTS.
