When looking for a teacher on italki, I recommend people look at how many lessons the reviewers have taken with the teacher. Students don't praise teachers through ratings, they praise them by coming again and again. If you find such a teacher, you too might come again and again. At this point, I have had over 150 lessons with Nara sensei and I keep coming back for more. I find Nara sensei to be incredibly supportive and kind. She continually helps me express the things that are of interest to me and are happening around me. The last time I went to Japan, my relatives were very surprised at how well I was able to express myself. Yet, I can't wait to go back and talk about all the topics I have learned to talk about since that visit. All this is thanks to Nara sensei.

I’ve been taking lessons with Nara since 2021, nearly every week. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher; she is kind, patient, and funny, all while helping me to improve my Japanese skills leagues more than I could ever do on my own. Whether it’s JLPT prep, reading practice, or free conversation, Nara is there with helpful advice and a smile. I so love lessons with 奈良さん! Our consistent conversation practice really came to fruition during my recent trip to Japan, where I went back to visit my Japanese host family from my university days. Despite not having actively studying new grammar and vocab since then (work takes up too much time…), they commented that my Japanese has improved and sounded more natural! I was quite surprised to hear that but can really only attribute that to my enjoyable weekly conversations with 奈良さん :-) I made other meaningful connections during my trip as well, thanks to the speaking abilities that have been honed by the best teacher.
