It means something that the general public (the people) like or have a good impression of. The example sentence that has been posted is alright; you can use that. Hope this helps, Yusuke! :)

It means something has a quality that makes the public attractive or interesting. E.g. He is a shrewd manipulator behind the scenes, but has no mass appeal.

Helpful Hint: the masses = the common people, the public, crowds of people, the people of a city or nation. appealing = desirable, attractive Therefore: mass appeal = desired by large numbers of people, something a large crowd of people wants, likes, and enjoys. A popular politician can have mass appeal. Cell phones have mass appeal.

Although some Americans do not like sushi, tempura has mass appeal. The songs that he wrote were very simple, but they had mass appeal. Hollywood movies depend on mass appeal, because they need to earn a lot of money to justify million-dollar budgets. Some books depend on niche markets, other books have mass appeal. Good luck!

Have you tried using Linguee? It's a dictionary website and app, but it gives lots of example translations. You can enter "mass appeal" to see some example sentences. e.g. "The Tesla Model 3 was built for mass appeal." (Meaning: other Tesla models were just for niche markets, such as very rich people)
