Hello May, I found this question quite difficult to explain. I have however tried to give you an explanation of the difference between the two. I hope this helps. The definition of 'light' is 'electromagnetic radiation by which things are visible', light is a visible source of electricity, for example if you switch on the 'light' socket of a room (this is usually on the wall and the source of 'light' tends to be the electricity bulb hanging from the ceiling in the centre on the room), the room becomes illuminated in light. Of course you can also make things visible by the use of torchlight and candlelight A 'lamp' is an appliance that produces the light, for example a table lamp, bedside lamp or lamppost (street light).

A light can be any electric device which emits light. A lamp is a more limited design, such as a table lamp, desk lamp or lamp post. Lamps usually illuminate a limited area within a space.

Light is usually the visible radiation of different colours ranging from voilet to red (rainbow colours). Infra red light and ultravoilet light is not visible to human eye. A lamp is a device which emits light. It can contain LED's or it can be a traditional electric bulb or kerosene lamp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerosene_lamp
