How can I say "ligar" or "flirtear" with somebody in english? Thanks!

Hi Smara In British English, the closest I can think of to this is 'chatting up'. you can 'chat up' someone you meet, and you can flirt with them too, as Zooey says.

Are those the english words? i don't recognize them. Oh, I think they're spanish. I guess they mean flirt, but I don't know spanish well enough to know the difference between those two words. The english word I know is 'flirt', usually it's a verb. He flirts with all the girls. She flirted with me. But it can also be a noun: You are such a flirt! Other related expressions are 'to make eyes at someone' 'to make a pass at someone' (means it was not welcome, nor successful) one very common one in spoken english, maybe more than 'flirt': 'to hit on someone' We went to the restaurant but he was hitting on all the waitresses. And this very sweet line: You don't mind if I hit on you, right? (smile) (It's sweet if it's welcome)

flirtear es españolizado de flirt. "ligar" es lo que se dice por aqui, debe ser por eso de "atar". chatting up no tiene mucho que ver con lo que preguntas. hay mas palabras pero las he olvidado, ya estoy en la segunda division. Ah, si no estas aqui para ligar, es curioso que preguntes esto. pero bueno tu sabras. ah, tambien esta la palabra "to court" pero no es nada coloquial.
