Pushing 40 ? A take two? could you clarify these two marked lines for me please? I'm the boy in your other phone Lighting up inside your drawer at home all alone **Pushing 40 in the friend zone** We talk and then you walk away every day Oh, you don't think twice 'bout me And maybe you're right to doubt me, but But if you give me just one night You're gonna see me in a new light Yeah, if you give me just one night To meet you underneath the moonlight **Oh, I want a take two, I want to breakthrough** I wanna know the real thing about you So I can see you in a new light Thanks.

"pushing 40" or pushing any age for that matter means you're getting really close to being that age. It's usually used in a negative way. For this song, it's definitely used that way because the person in the song is almost 40 and is still viewed as just a friend but wants to become something more than a friend (aka friend zoned) to whoever they're talking about "Take two" refers to when movies are being filmed and the scene didn't go well or as desired, they will film another "take" usually replacing the ones before it. Basically, this person wants a second chance or a fresh start with the person they're talking about in hopes to "breakthrough" or get past the situation they're in and move further along towards their goal of seeing the person differently I hope this helps :)

I *just* heard this song (Spotify? New Music Friday?) I'm going to disagree with the other two posters: "Pushing 40" can mean that you are nearly, but not quite, 40 years old. However, in this case, I think they're talking about speed and the 40 is 40 miles per hour (and pushing 40 would mean going almost, but not quite, 40 miles/hour - somewhere in the high 30s.) Metaphorically, it makes more sense. The whole verse is about movement. He's describing trying to get out of the "friend zone," but he's going too slow to do so. Also, this particular singer is already over 40 years old. He's done pushing 40. He pushed it. He's gearing up for 50.

"Pushing 40 in the friend zone" This is two phrases together. First, we have "pushing 40" which means that the person's age is getting close to 40 (they might be 37+). "in the friend zone" refers to a relationship between two people where person A wants to date person B, but person B just wants to be friends with person A. Person A would be "in the friend zone". Person A tends to be male. All together, the lyric is saying that the singer is getting old and still in the friend zone with the girl he loves. "Oh, I want a take two, I want to breakthrough" The phrase "take two" comes from shooting film. We "take" videos of things. So the first time the cast tries to shoot a scene, it's take one (take number one). The second attempt would be take two, and so on. The singer wants a second take; in other words, he wants a second chance to try to get the girl. "I want to breakthrough" refers back to the friend zone. He wants to break through the wall she put up and get serious about their relationship.
