What does "hacked off" mean? The extract is: I was feeling fantastic and when I glanced in the rearview mirror I saw that my hair had been hacked off and dyed at least five neon colors and there was a little silver post sticking through the side of my nose. The narrator is a girl. So, I understand that her hair was cut but is it clear from the verb how it was cut? Like is her hair now really-really short, like boy's? Or it can be anything?

Cut off in a haphazard or aggressive way. So in this context I would picture the haircut being really uneven and maybe messy- looking. But in a stylish/punk way I guess since the narrator sounds happy about it.
