Sometiemes we find nothing to talk about, and the atmosphere is weird if we sill hang out there silently. And if we want to get away, what will we say to them to make them feel you are sincere, but not intended to get away from them rudely. In all, how to end a conversation politely?

Sometimes I act as if ending the conversation is a favor to the other person by saying "Ok, I'll let you go now" or "I won't bother you any longer" followed by "talk to you later/see you soon" Or... you can say "It's been nice talking to you, but I have to go"

my approach would be 'when are you around next', 'are you going to be here on sunday' etc. 'can we meet then' etc. 'see you on sunday' 'looking forward to it' etc. it sounds positive and upbeat. all the phrases like 'hope to talk you again soon' , 'i'll let you go now' to me sound like thinly veiled excuses to bring an end to the conversation!

I think Jackie got a good answer by "saying I have to go". I used to do that. However, at one time, I was asked by a Chinese friend "Brandon, why you need to go out in the middle of the night every time I talk to you. What kind of job do you do?".
