If something takes your breath away, that means : 1- you find it extremely beautiful or 2- are completely astonished/surprised by it: Examples - The richness of his voice and the intensity of his gaze took my breath away. ( beautiful , handsome ) - When he mentioned the price, it took my breath away. ( because i'm shocked - it's expensive )
