Hi, my name is Wenwei. I first worked with ESL learners when I was a writing tutor, which exposed me to second language acquisition. I focus on the communicative aspects of the language and evaluate your ability to have a conversation—oral comprehension & appropriate engagement. My approach is collaborative & effective because I work with you and learn through you during our lessons. I ask questions related to the content of the lessons and I’m attentive to your responses, all to help you clarify what you intend to communicate. My teaching style is collaborative and therefore relies heavily on open communication between both parties and a willingness on your part to prepare before lessons. I do not spend a lot of time simply “feeding” you course material; rather, we spend time applying concepts through conversation or interactive in-class activities. If you require a hands-on approach, I’d recommend studying with a teacher who is specifically trained and equipped to offer explicit instruction and a course syllabus. Prospective student, please contact me before scheduling to plan a productive lesson with me. Trial lessons are spent getting to know you and assessing your current English level. We create a set of concrete and attainable goals to focus on during future lessons with me or another tutor. Other lessons are planned based on your input and my feedback. Lessons are typically discussion-based. This generally means that we focus on topics of interest or material relevant to your studies or profession. I will provide an outline of our first lesson or you can use this time to go over your own material. Afterward, I send a follow up message containing a summary and assessment of the trial. I enjoy conversations with Wenwei about different topics. Also it isn't only about language learning but about cultural exchange too! Last time we discussed the cultural differences between the US and my country in terms of borrowing the money and personal boundaries. Looking forward to the next lesson!

Wenwei is a great teacher with a great experience. She approaches each lesson individually, trying to best suit the student. She spends a lot of time preparing lessons. She is committed, and very professional, and at the same time demanding and open to any suggestions. I have had lessons with Wenwei for over two years and I can honestly recommend her to everyone.
