Dear Students,
My name is Rafael Leite, and I have been working as a Portuguese second language instructor for ten years (+4 years online experience). I consider myself easy to work with, organized, and always ready to support my students.
Fortunately, I have vast pedagogical experience with all levels of proficiency in Portuguese, as well as experience preparing students for the Portuguese proficiency exam, Celpe-Bras.
All this experience has helped me grow as a teacher and as a person. I really hope to contribute to your language improvement in the best way possible so that you can continue this amazing journey which is learning my native language.Öğretmen Olarak Ben
During these years I have improved my skills by teaching many international students including children, teenagers, and adults from different age groups. I use various techniques in my classes based on the student, as students have different backgrounds and needs. I have experience teaching international banking professionals, American, European and Japanese multinational executives as well as several professionals from the US and Australians on diplomatic mission in Brazil.Derslerim ve öğretme tarzım
My methodology is based on the Communicative and Usage Based Approaches which aims to use communication as the major point to address grammar, lexicon and the interpersonal skills necessary to help students of Portuguese as a Second Language acquire fluency.
Usually, the class is split into 3 parts: 1. Review of what was discussed in the previous lesson(s) followed by feedback on assignments, conversation on everyday topics such as, family, friends, routine and news. 2. Small lecture, which approaches grammar and a vocabulary topic and oral practice. 3. Debates and discussions on current topics.

I began studying Portuguese with Rafael as an absolute beginner about two and a half years ago. Although I’d had some experience learning languages, that was a long time ago and I was a little nervous. I immediately felt comfortable with Rafael. He is a gifted teacher and a true scholar of the Portuguese language. He seems to genuinely enjoy helping you make those first steps in your new language and meets you wherever you are in terms of your personal motivations for starting that journey. For me, that was an interest in Brazilian music and our earliest, simplest conversations revolved around that topic. Over time, my lessons have included lengthier and more complex conversations but Rafael always provides corrections and feedback on my use of the language along the way. And if, like me, you enjoy learning and understanding the mechanics of a new language, you’ll appreciate the homework review and his talent for explaining the nuances of Portuguese grammar!

Rafael is a great teacher, attentive and kind. He leads each lesson in a friendly and informal yet structured and productive way. Rafael was absolutely amazing. He is very approachable, caring, and understanding. He creates an environment that challenges you to think in Portugese, but also where making mistakes are normal and part of the learning process!
