Tere!
My name is Grete and I'm from Estonia. I have lived in the UK, Italy and Norway over the past 5-years while completing my degrees in nutrition and health economics. For the moment, I am back in Tallinn, Estonia.
In addition to languages, I'm curious about cultures and learning different perspectives and I like discussing abstract ideas, food, music, travelling, books, health, and science. I also play badminton, go running and climbing and I have been a scout pretty much all my life. I'm excited to hear about your language-learning journey and hope to get to know you soon!

Apart from tutoring here, I've had language exchanges over 4 years, where I've been teaching Estonian and English while learning some other languages myself. I have also organised interactive language cafes in Tallinn, Estonia, to help foreigners improve their language skills. So, although I'm not a teacher, I have experience tutoring and supporting someone else's learning process.
My goal is to encourage my students to speak and build their confidence in learning the language as Estonian is known to be one of the hardest languages in the world, which can be quite intimidating for the beginner. I'm patient, enthusiastic and open to adapting to your learning style.
Derslerim ve öğretme tarzım
I'm very open to different methods and tailoring the lesson based on your level, either when you are just starting with the language or have learned it for a while. We can have conversations on different topics based on your interests, talk about Estonia or your own culture, and look at a range of media sources such as videos, books or articles. We can also play word games and learn by describing pictures or listening to music.
I will keep the conversation mainly in the target language. Throughout the conversation, I will note down new words and phrases and any mistakes per your request, so you can go back to them later and benefit from the lesson even more. You can also ask me for homework.

I am very happy to have classes with Grete. She is very helpful and patient and the classes pass pleasantly. I am surprised that after a few lessons I can have a short conversation at the beginning of class.

I really like the order in which Grete organizes the learning materials. It makes much sense and creates a nice step-by-step learning process. Grete addresses all my needs and happily answers all my questions. I'm enjoying learning Estonian with Grete.

I’ve very much enjoyed my talks with Grete in the last two months. We have covered an array of topics about Estonia or around the small but often confusing and even humorous differences between Estonian and my native Finnish languages. For practical reasons I’m having a summer break now, but I am very much looking forward to carrying on with Grete in the autumn!

Grete is amazing. She's so great at explaining grammar and pointing out nuances and colloquialisms that I would never pick up on. I am learning a ton with her!

Grete is an amazing teacher! First, instead of just telling the translations or blunt explanations, she often asks the right questions to help you come to the correct answers yourself (that's my favorite teaching style). Second, she knows grammar exceptionally well and can clearly explain even the most intricate aspects of it. I also liked that we had shared lesson notes, where she adds everything we talk about during the lesson, well-structured, and it's very helpful afterwards. I learnt a lot from her every lesson and was never bored. Highly recommend!
