Hola! I am Elma Janeth Perea. I am from Colombia. I am a Spanish speaker certified in English teaching. I have taught English and Spanish (children, adolescents and adults) at different Schools, universities and educational institutions for more than 20 years. I also have a Master degree in Translation, which has helped me understand how language works for both cultures. Currently, I am working as an English /Spanish teacher and also as a freelance translator/interpreter. I really enjoy talking to people and sharing what I know. I enjoy talking/learning about cultures and my countyry, which is one of the most biodiverse in the world. I love reading, traveling, doing exercise dancing...Öğretmen Olarak Ben
I think we really learn by doing, therefore, my teaching is based on the Communicative Approach, among others, since I know that the more we talk and interact in a language, the more we learn and improve our communicative skills; for this reason, I count on a wide range of material like Power Point presentations, pictures, readings, games, news articles, audios, posters, videos, etc. I always design the class according to each learner’s needs and preferences because learning a language should be an amusing and challenging experience instead of a stressing or boring task where grammar is not necessarily the main goal. It can be learned in a simple way.

The class will be taught according to the student’s language level and needs . First, I will diagnose the student’s level, then I will adapt a class plan by asking him questions (oral /written) such as his likes/dislikes, daily routine, culture, etc. Next, I will prepare the class material including videos, readings, PPPs, games, songs, etc, to have some topics to develop before, during and after class. In class, we will discuss the topics assigned, which will be contrasted with the student's real life. We will also resolve questions. Finally, some new activities will be assigned to keep learning new vocabulary, idioms, expressions, structures. Progress will depend on our team work!Öğretim materyallerim

I enjoy my classes with Elma ! She helps me with my pronunciation and teaches me alot about Colombian culture. She has also been giving me recommendations for my upcoming trip to Medellin and Armenia. I am thankful for her help in getting to know Colombia and what to expect when Im there.

Elma is an outstanding teacher. I've tried multiple different techniques to improve my language abilities. My lessons with Elma have truly made a difference in my language journey. Her classes are far more than "say this" and "say that". It feels like an immersion class focused on language, culture, and history. I highly recommend taking classes with Elma.

I enjoy my classes with Elma! She makes me feel comfortable and I love that she corrects my spanish and pronunciation. She came with a plan for my spanish learning journey and Im excited to continue learning with her. I enjoy learning about her culture and connecting over traveling also !

Take Elma's classes, especially if you want to improve your listening skills and speaking! Elma's teaching style is highly interactive and tailored to your needs. In the trial lesson, she asks a lot of questions to learn about your learning style and goals. I said I wanted homework and liked to learn with all my senses, and she sent me multiple songs and a video as homework for future lessons.
Class itself is mostly focused on conversational Spanish because I wanted to focus on that, but she also gives me writing practice and listening exercises. She corrects my mistakes consistently and is very knowledgeable about the Colombian dialect and pronunciation. On top of that, we spend some of our class talking about our respective cultures, which is very fun. Thanks Elma!
