Hello! My name is Ori, and I live in Jerusalem. I love literature from around the world (especially Latin American and Russian), cinema, stand up comedy and funny movies (Monty Python are my heroes), spiritual and religious ideas, the human mind and its traits and behaviors, to make a short list.
After the military service, I traveled for 8 months in South America and it broadened my horizon immensely. And this year, 2018, I traveled for 3 months in Europe, which were awesome nonetheless. Hopefully I could travel full-time in the future :)
Öğretmen Olarak Ben
After two months of traveling in South America at the age of 22, I still didn't understand Spanish properly. I took a week off and learned basic Spanish with a private teacher, and my Spanish improved greatly. That experience planted the seeds of me wanting to do the same thing with my native language.
In my linguistic studies in my B.A., I learned the basic grammar of 6 foreign languages (Latin, German, Yiddish, Swedish, Old Norse, and Arabic).
After the B.A. I took a course of teaching Hebrew as a foreign language and taught at the summer school of the Hebrew University.
I grew up in a religious house and went to religious schools, so I am very familiar with Biblical and Medieval Hebrew.
Derslerim ve öğretme tarzım
The most common and successful method is teaching Hebrew in Hebrew. However, if I see that you struggle with it, I'll try to find the balance point of explaining in English/Spanish/Arabic and practice in Hebrew.
Unless you have your own passions and favorite topics, we will cover topics like daily situations, human behavior, art, music (you'll start to love Israeli music!), travel, culture, history, religion, etc.
We will practice the 4 skills of learning a language: reading, writing, talking and listening. If you want to practice one skill more than the others, that's ok with me.
If you need to prepare for an exam or a job interview, I'm here for that as well.

Today's lesson was great! We worked on a lot of useful words for my upcoming trip to Israel and started to learn about verb conjugation. I look forward to learning more Hebrew with Ori. :)

Ori was very appreciative of what I already know and had a lot of patience when I had troubles expressing myself in hebrew. I felt comfortable enough to get hebrew words out of my mouth, which is the main problem I'm struggling with right now, and we had a great chat almost exclusively in hebrew, and I enjoyed it! Thank you :)

I speak Hebrew! Ori gave me a ton of exercises (on my request) to learn how to talk about food, Obesity, diabetes, food habits in Israel as well as gastronomy. I've spent the past two weeks studying all this into details and today : ultimate reward ! We spend the whole hour speaking only Hebrew about all these topics. I was a complete beginner at the end of December and am so proud of the job done ! Thanks a lot for your patience Ori. I loooooooooove our lessons.

I wish I could have learnt more this month, but work is work... But anyway, I had a great time studying this topic : religion. Ori made me work on a video about the most important Jewish books. Then, he even wrote himself a text about what a typical day in the life of an orthodox Jew looks like. A very good way to learn tons of new words related to Judaism. Furthermore, he also explained the words and phrases I didn't know.
I'm really getting comfortable with my Hebrew. I'm more and more autonomous. I worked independently on the words of תפילת שמונה עשרה and also learnt a new song : אחד מי יודע. As numbers aren't really my thing, at least, now I'm done with them :).
I always look so much forward to our lessons Ori. Thanks a lot for helping me fulfil an old dream : speaking Hebrew.
See you very shortly my friend.
