They share many similar words, like familia (family) and casa (house). 2. False Friends: Despite their similarities, some words look alike but have completely different meanings. For example, embarazada in Spanish means "pregnant," not "embarrassed"! 3. Pronunciation Differences: Portuguese has a nasal sound that doesn’t exist in Spanish. Compare mão (hand in Portuguese) with mano (hand in Spanish). 4. Global Reach: Spanish is spoken by over 500 million people worldwide, while Portuguese is the official language of 8 countries! Você gosta de surpresas? Não sou do tipo que gosta muito, mas tenho que admitir que ficar em Recife por causa da conexão em nosso voo foi uma das experiências mais legais que tive nas minhas viagens. Não planejei viajar até lá, mas a sorte me levou até a cidade. E quando a vida dá limões, a gente faz uma limonada! Foi uma noite e uma manhã. Pouco tempo, mas suficiente para experienciar a hospitalidade do recifense, conhecer lugares legais (visitei também Olinda, mas isso eu conto depois) e já notar que o recifense sente muito orgulho de sua terra linda. A cidade também recebe muitos estrangeiros. Você já conhece?
