In this third episode of Esoteric Naples, we explore a world where death and devotion merge. From its ancient Greek origins to the devastating plagues and cholera epidemics, this site became a vast ossuary, preserving the memory of collective tragedy.
We uncover the cult of the “anime pezzentelle”, the tradition of adopting skulls (capuzzelle), the plaques reading “for a grace received”, and the mystery of condensation on the skulls, believed to bring protection and luck according to popular belief.
At the center stands Donna Concetta, the most famous skull, symbol of faith, legend and popular devotion.
A journey through history, spirituality and mystery, where Naples reveals its deepest truth: death is not an end, but a living part of its culture and soul.
