Hi, As Ralph has already said, "take" here means "accept". "I'll accept dad being angry over the alternative..." "Over the alternative" means "rather than the other thing" I've never read "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" (this is that book, isn't it?) so I don't know the context. It could be many things... "I'll much prefer dad to be angry than....... - dad being injured - dad being depressed - dad being at work - mum being angry - big brother being angry - sister being angry There are many things that the alternative could be in this situation! I hope that helps, Marcus

Hi, Take means to accept. I'll accept dad being ... Alternative means other forms of character or behaviour. If dad fell down the stairs when he tripped, he would be badly injured. So, I'd rather have dad angry than injured. Cheers

"Tripped over" is similar to "fell over" but indicates specifically that the fall had something to do with his walk. "Take" in this case means "content with", "make do" or "live with". For example, you might have wanted to drink some limonade at the bar, but since there isn't any left "you'll take" a glass of orange juice. "The alternative" is what he would be like if he wasn't angry.
