When you add "-ness" to an adjective, it becomes a noun. The suffix "-ness" means "state : condition : quality" and is used with an adjective to say something about the state, condition, or quality of being that adjective. For example, redness is a red quality, and redness means "the quality of being red." The redness in his eyes went away after he got some sleep. Bitterness is a bitter condition, or "the condition of being bitter." The breakup caused them to feel anger and bitterness. Not all adjectives can be made into nouns using "-ness." Typically, if an adjective is in its -er or -est form, "-ness" cannot be added: higher and highest cannot become higherness or highestness. Typically, if an adjective is actually a participle of a verb, "-ness" cannot be added: washed and running cannot become washedness or runningness. Most other adjectives, however can be made into nouns by adding "ness." Hope this helps 🍀

Both English and Spanish can change adjectives into nouns by adding or changing word endings. You can't add "-ness" to every adjective. You can't translate every Spanish word ending in "-ez" or "-dad" into an English word ending in "-ness." But both languages have examples of words where the short word is an adjective, and it is made into a longer noun by adding a suffix. Dark = oscuro His writing is dark. Darkness = oscuridad His writing is full of darkness. Red = rojo Your skin is red where you scratched it. Redness = rojez There is some redness on your skin where you scratched it. Happy = feliz People do not have right to be happy. Happiness = felicidad People do have a right to seek (buscar) happiness. Weak = debil Your argument is weak. Weakness = debilidad The weakness in your argument is in your second premise. Sad = triste Debussy's music seems sad. Sadness = tristeza There is a sadness at the heart of Debussy's music.

You need to say “does anyone know”. “Anyone knows” does not create a question.

fyi 'dark' can be both an adjective and a noun. As a noun, it has a different meaning than 'darkness' darkness = the state of being dark (uncountable) dark = absence of light. Darkness will slow down our progress. (not 'dark') I'm afraid of the dark. (not 'darkness')
