Do you read a teachers/tutors bio before booking for a lesson with them?
I'd say 80% of my students I've had, mentioned to me that they either didn't see my bio or saw that I had one but didn't read it.
It's really important to not just blindly pick a random tutor/teacher based on either their looks (profile pic) or where they live. Actually if you go to their profile you can learn more about their tutoring/teaching style. You can read about their educational background. You can watch their intro video.
Also if you're looking for free language exchange, ACTUALLY look at the persons bio before private messaging them. I'm always shocked when people message me and say, "I see you want to learn Spanish. I can help you." "i see you're fluent in Portuguese can you help me?" "I can tutor you in Chinese." If you take the 2 or so minutes that it takes to actually read the persons bio you'll learn exactly what they are on Italki for and what languages they want to learn. Where on my profile does it say that I want to learn Spanish...or that I'm fluent in Portuguese...or that I want to learn Chinese? If you see this information on my bio.... let me know.
