What's more important? Skill sets or a college degree?
if you had to choose one, what would it be and why?

A college degree is not just a piece of paper. It certifies that you have acquired a certain skill set. The problem is that nowadays college is really overpriced and yet has a very high status to the point that everyone feels the need to get a degree, so now the labour market is oversaturated with people with higher education degrees, which makes the degrees lose their value in the labour market.

Although I think people tend to forget that unlike vocational education, college education is about more than acquiring job skills. College education is meant to give you general life skills: critical thinking skills, writing skills, and generally be an enriching experience that opens you up to new ideas and new perspectives.

Ideally, both are needed but skills are more important because that's what you'd need in everyday life, not just at work or in business

Skills
Even if you have a PhD or even an MBA, it is useless if is not required in the field you are working at.. I know a lot of people who are good with theory but quite poor in practice. A higher degree can help you with a promotion but it is sometimes unnecessary unless you are practicing it. A good example is teaching. There is a big difference with a teacher who has years of experience and a teacher with an MA but no experience in teaching. A person with an MA can have more knowledge but if the teaching method is poor then it is useless.

Achieved Magister degree in psychology and never worked psychologist. Not even one day.
So, I wasted five years of my life for study, and then started on zero point in completely different sphere, where I needed a lot of skills I didn’t have. It taked another five years to achieve something with this. So, if I could choose ten years ago, I deffinitely prefered skills.

Skills obviously. But i made a common mistake. I have a Master degree but there's no job for me. I mean in last couple months i did low jobs. Sadly
