Hayley Okines Has Died, the 17-year-old girl who lived ina a 104-year-old body
The UK cried last Saturday for the Hayley Okines death, a 17-year-old girl with a rare genetic illness that made her body to age eight times faster than normal. She was well-known in the British island for her activism for make raising awareness about her illness.
Okines had progeria, which is an illness that made her body to age until it had the same physical conditon that a 104-year-old person would have.
Children with progeria usually develop the first symptoms during the first months of their life. There is no cure and treatments only try to prevent or alleviate the complications of the illness.
Recent studies have shown that progerine, which is responsible for aging our body, could be isolated and reduce its effect, but the treatment is still at the preliminary stage.
Okines, who published her biography at 14 years old, had made many public statements to speak about her illness and make people aware of her daily life. Doctors had said to her that she would not live more than 13 years.
Excellent! Lidia thank you for writing about such dramatic and interesting topics. Sincerely, Shari
