广记不如淡墨

我想问一下大家一个问题。“广记不如淡漠墨”有是什么意思？是句成语吗？
英文有一个说法就是：“The palest ink is stronger than the strongest memory。.” 意思就是写將要记得的一切写下來，即使用淡漠墨來書寫，也比用你的脑子(記住所有的東西)來得准确。“广记不如淡漠墨”也有这样的意思吗？

I beg to differ in the precise meaning of 广記.  It means vast/extensive recordings.  eg.  太平广记 (<em>Extensive Records of the Taiping (peace) Era</em>).  So the direct translation of 广记不如淡墨 is "vast knowledge is unlike the faintest ink".  In other words, "having vast knowledge is not as good having some scribbles of the written word".  Your English version is most eloquently translated by meaning.
