The Indian Festival Of Lights (Diwali) - How to Explain in Chinese? Hello Recently it was the Indian Festival of Lights Called 'Diwali'. My Chinese friends asked me to explain it to them in Chinese, but I could not. Can you help me translate the following explanation? This festival has been celebrated for many thousand years in India. Essentially, it is about the celebration of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. To celebrate this fact, the festival is held on the darkest night of the year. People will light many lamps at their homes to symbolise the light triumphing over the dark. (There is also a religious story about one of the Indian gods Ram, but this is a little too indepth for a simple explanation). People will perform a special prayer at their homes with their family, buy family members and friends gifts of new clothes and prepare special foods as part of the celebration. In the evening there will also be a lot of fire crackers. Although there are many, many different celebrations in Indian culture, most of them are about one thing: That ultimately the forces of good will conquer the forces of evil and balance will be restored. People should have faith in the divine and the forces of nature that all will be good in the end.
