sharp metal things which used to be on the boots of horse riders, to make the horse run fast when they hit them. http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/merchandiser/17884.jpg

Spurs are sharp objects on boots worn usually by cowboys, or people who ride horses. When on a horse, you can jab your spurs into the side of the horse and he will run faster. So, a spur is a metal sharp, usually decorative, but functional device attached to your leather boots.

I was listening to Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood sing "Summer Wine" (1967) on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQiDs9tKZv4 (That sure brings back memories. My dad had records by Nancy Sinatra.) The "silver spurs" mentioned in this sexy song refer overall to the spurred cowboy boots that the man is wearing. The spurs are Western-type spurs. They are wheel-like metal projections attached to the boots and are used to jab the sides of the horse to make them go faster. I don't see those types of boots often in California, except at cowboy rodeos and when little boys who want to grow up to be cowboys wear them (the spurs then are just ornamental).

its a plural word I think that's why you did not get the meaning it has 2 meaning 1 a device with a small spike or a spiked wheel that is worn on a rider's heel and used for urging a horse forward. "Jacobs said he used the spurs to control the horse and that any force he used was to control the horse and keep himself out of danger." 2 a thing that prompts or encourages someone; an incentive. "profit was both the spur and the reward of enterprise" synonyms: stimulus, incentive, encouragement, inducement, impetus, prod, motivation, inspiration, catalyst, springboard, kick up the backside, shot in the arm now you need to check in which context this word is use. I hope I answer to your question.
