Help with French numbers and grammar? Salut les amis! I am interested in learning French to prepare for the DELF B1/B2 exam. So far, French has been somewhat interesting and easy to learn, as many words are similar to my first language, English. Currently, I am having just a little trouble remembering the grammar rules, mainly the feminine and masculine differences. Anyway, it would be nice if anyone can share with me an easy way to learn numbers in French. How did your teachers or parents teach it to you when you were learning? It seems very complicated to me, especially after the number 70? Also is there a way you can know if a noun is feminine or masculine or do I have to memorize it while learning the word? I would be glad to help anyone with their English in exchange for French or Arabic, but I not from a native-speaking country. English has however, been my first language since Kindergarten. I tend to explain myself a lot, so eventually I write a lot. Sorry, if that bothers anyone. Merci beaucoup

Just memorize them and try to use them! They are one of the quirks of French... This cute game may help you recognize them - you have to understand the number they say: http://lexiquefle.free.fr/num.swf

Think of numbers as groups. 1-9 and then 11-16 are quite excentric and follow no rules. 10, 17, 18, 19 follow the same pattern. 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71 also have a distinctive pattern "et un" = "AND one") Originality in numbers stops at 60. I say as a joke that there was no need for numbers higher than 60 because there is only 60 min in one hour. So after that, we recycled numbers. It's pure mathematics. 70 is 60 + 10 (soixante-dix) 80 is 4 X 20 (quatre-vingt) 90 is 4 X 20 +10 (quatre-vingt-dix)

Salut! As far as numbers go, I learned them by saying them in my head in place of English numbers. For example when you go to the store, think of the price in French when you pick up an item. For masculine v. feminine, it is necessary to learn this as part of the vocabulary and word. If you make flashcards or lists of vocabulary, make sure to include the article (for apple, write "la pomme", not just "pomme"). Learn it as part of the word. Actuellement, je suis anglophone qui viens déménager à France pour devenir prof d'anglais, et j'apprends la difficulté de la langue français. Dîtes-moi si vous aves des autres questions.
