What is the meaning of moving on doesn't mean getting over somebody? It is hard to move on, especially when moving on doesn't mean getting over somebody. I don't understand the meaning of the all sentece. Andare avanti nel non vuol dire passare sopra(dimenticarsi?) di qualcuno?

Moving on means moving on with life. It could be moving on after a break up, moving on after quitting a job, moving on after an injury, moving on after a friend or family member dies etc. So yes, it can mean getting over somebody, but it means moving on with life as you make life changes, or they happen to you.

The only good example I can think of is the situation a parent is in just after a newly adult child has moved away from home. The parent isn't going to "get over" their love for their child (it would be tragic and awful if they did), but the parent does need to move on and adjust to life without their kid living in their house.

Ciao Claudia, I think I understand your question in that you want to understand this quote in it's entirety. I can understand why you don't understand it because it is missing things around it, or a bit of context to fully understand what it means. I am not sure exactly where this came from but if it's from a bigger text the rest of what is said could reveal its true meaning. Not knowing anything else other then the words you wrote I can try and guess. Jenny is right. Generally moving on means to move on with life. It can can also be a physical action but in this case it's not so I lets forget that for now. To move on with life or proceed with things despite obstacles takes many forms as Jenny mentioned. One of them, is to move forward with your life after a break up.(getting over someone else) This is generally a hard thing to do but in this case the person is saying whatever he is moving on from is harder than moving on from someone else. He is not saying moving on doesn't mean getting over somebody in the sense of the definition of "moving on". I think he/she is alluding to the act of getting over somebody would be easier to do than the act they are currently doing. I realize I may be confusing things more. If you're still a little confused let me know. We can talk about it.

Moving on = Carrying on with life, leaving something/someone behind. (Maybe it still hurts you, maybe it doesn't.) Getting over something/someone = Reaching a point where something/someone no longer hurts you. Quick version: Moving on: Bye bye (but it still hurts?) Getting over someone/something: Bye bye (it doesn't hurt now) 'It is hard to move on, especially when moving on doesn't mean getting over somebody.' = 'It is hard to move on, because bye bye (but it still hurts?) doesn't mean bye bye (it doesn't hurt)
