-a doozy: I use this one a lot. I use it in reference to something that was difficult for me in the past, but has since been resolved. It's a light-hearted way to refer to a problem. -our of hand: I think you mean "out of hand." I use this sometimes, particularly when a group of people are getting too rowdy. I would say, "I left the party because it was just getting out of hand." -hold your horses: I use this in a joking way, when someone I'm close to is in a hurry for no reason. -Kumpf the gun: I have never heard this one, so I don't use it. -draw the line: I use this one when I want to make boundaries clear. For example, "I like to have open conversations with my children, but I draw the line at sarcasm." -go easy on: I use this one when I'm encouraging someone to be gentle when they are dealing an issue they have with another person. For example, "Go easy on him, he isn't feeling well." -rise and shine: American English speakers say this all the time to their kids when it's time to wake up. -add fuel of the fire: I think you mean "Add fuel to the fire." This means that someone is exacerbating or perpetuating a problem. "If you try to talk to your ex-girlfriend now, you'll just be adding fuel to the fire." -pep talk: I use this in regards to a conversation meant to encourage someone. Coaches often give their teams a pep talk before games. -make ends meet: I use this phrase when someone is struggling financially. "She had to work three jobs just to make ends meet." -on the fence: I use this phrase when I'm undecided about something. "I don't know if I want to go to the party...I'm on the fence about it." -speak of the devil: I use this phrase a lot. It's used when you're talking about someone/something and they/it suddenly appear without knowing that you were just talking about them. -hang by a thread: I use this phrase when I'm in a difficult situation and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to handle it.
