Is this part grammatical? Hello dear native speakers Here is a part of a passage taken from TOEFL, and I doubt if a part of it is grammatical : According to conventional theory, yawning takes place when people are bored or sleepy and serves the function of increasing alertness by reversing, through deeper breathing, the drop in blood oxygen levels that are caused by the shallow breathing that accompanies lack of sleep or boredom. Unfortunately, the few scientific investigations of yawning have failed to find any connection between how often someone yawns and how much sleep they have had or how tired they are. About the closest any research has come to supporting the tiredness theory is to confirm that adults yawn more often on weekdays than at weekends, and that school children yawn more frequently in their first year at primary school than they do in kindergarten. What does " About the closest any research has come to supportingthe tiredness theory is...." mean? Is that part grammatical? I feel sth is missing. Sorry, but it is fine and correct as I read it. About the closest any research has come to supporting [this theory] = the research that is closest to supporting [this theory] = research has noit confirmed [this theory], but the one about to be mentioned is closest to doing so [the tiredness theory] is [the research does this] "about the closest to" a cupcake is a muffin these things are similar and one is the most similar of all things considered to confirm [that research confirms] that adults yawn more often on weekdays than at weekends, and [also confirms] that school children yawn more frequently in their first year at primary school than they do in kindergarten. Any help? NTN: no thanks necessary, but more comment/questions, ok.

Try this rewritten - hopefully into something you might be familiar with. "(About) the closest any research has come to supporting the tiredness theory, is a theory that confirms that adults yawn more often on weekdays than at weekends, and that school children yawn more frequently in their first year at primary school than they do in kindergarten." About here is just saying "reasonably close to" it is acting like an emphasise https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/about

It is perfectly fine, the sentences may be a little bit long with lots of information to digest. Possibly you are not yet quite ready to take the test, but only able to do practice tests using old texts from previous exams, which I assume the text is.
