What does mother in "tear this mother to the ground" mean? (from "the Good Place") Hi, I was watching a tv show "the Good Place" and in this scene, a (literal) demon named Michael is basically teasing and roasting four humans in front of other demons by making cruel and humiliating jokes about them. And when he finishes his jokes he says, "ok that's all my time. Let's **tear this mother to the ground!**" and the crowd(demons) go crazy, screaming with excitement. Now I don't understand what the part marked in stars means here especially "mother"? why mother? Is this just a short form of "mother f*"? Thanks in advance!

Hey! As you guessed, "mother" here is short for the full swear. A good example is the song "We Had to Tear This Mothaf***a Up" by Ice Cube. You'll typically hear it in terms of "tear this mother up", "tear this mother down", or "tear this mother to the ground". It can be literal, but it also gets used at parties / music events to express that things are going to get wild. A similar phrase is "we're gonna tear up this town". Meaning we're going to have a wild, reckless amount of fun.

You're right, 'mother' is just short for 'motherf-' in this sentence. The whole sentence basically means 'Let's destroy this (thing)'.
