Love is love. Fondness is like "tenderness or affection". I think if you love you also have fondness. But if you have fondness, you do not necessarily have love. I believe they are very closely related emotions.

Hello Alisa, To be fond of someone is to like that someone , be fascinated by his/her traits ,but not necessarily love them. To love someone is to feel certain passionate emotions towards them ,associated with feelings of attachment and possibly fondness. You could be fond of someone but not developing any continuous attachment or any desire to be close to that someone, but when you love someone you favor them being in your surrounding and sharing feelings with you . One good example is being fond of a renowned writer or a famous actress, but loving some guy you met in real life.
