Hello guys! I would like to ask, if "washing" and "laundry" are just synonyms? Or if there are some situations when only one of these words would fit? For example, "I have hung the laundry out to dry on the balcony"/ "I have hung the washing out to dry on the balcony" . Is it both correct?

My guess is there are a lot of regional differences. I say ‘laundry’ and ‘wash’ (but never ‘washing’). You can also say ‘clothes’ and ‘load’. Is my shirt in the laundry? The wash won’t be done until 4. Can you put the load in the dryer? I have to hang the clothes before I leave.

Yes, both are correct! In the United States, I know that "the washing" and "laundry" are used in different parts of the country but anyone will know what you mean. I also agree with Micheal H. that it should be "Are they both correct?" instead of "is it both correct?" Because you are talking about more than one thing, "is" should be changed to "are"

Yes, they are both correct. I usually say washing not laundry but you can use either. To add on to that answer, the word washing can be used as a verb or a noun.

Hi, both "washing" and "laundry" are correct, but I would normally say laundry. Also, "Is it both correct?" should be "Are they both correct?"

Laundry is more common. And if you are talking about the verb "washing" or "doing the laundry," they would have different meanings. You could be washing dishes or your car, but you can only do laundry when it is with clothes.
