My name is Catarina, Im from the south of Portugal but living and working as a teacher in Barcelona for some time now. I speak spanish with fluency and also english. I love chatting about psychology, philosophy and arts! What I love about Italki is that its a great way to expand horizons and at the same time help people with their portuguese. As a teacher, I learned that each student has different goals and needs, so I really like to get to know my student before we start our classes. The students are the ones that have been dictating what type of classes should I give and how can I construct an efficent method to teach.
Ive been teaching for almost 10 years now and what I really love about this job is the opportunity to get to know different types of people and share the knowledge I have about my country and its language. I love to share what I know about Portugal and also to get to know about my student’s countries and interests. I find that the most useful strategy is speaking as much as we can with a native speaker, recognize structures and words and be brave enough to make mistakes. In my classes, I like to know what the students learning goals are so I can adapt my classes to my students needs. In my basic level classes theres a lot of effort putting on learning the basis of the language and its structures, but always focusing in speaking and comprehension.
