Hello! My name is Antonia. I'm a native English speaker from Northern Ireland, with a passion for travel, culture, and languages. Having travelled throughout Europe, with plans to explore more, my appreciation and love for communicating with people from all round the world has driven me to learn foreign languages, and spend my time teaching others how to speak English. I can’t wait to share this passion with you!

Although I’ve just started teaching recently on italki, I’ve been teaching English to my ESOL colleagues and friends for years. At school, I studied French, German, Ancient Greek and Latin, and later developed an interest in a range of languages - from Russian to Farsi, I have spent time getting to know and love languages from all over the world. Currently, I am conversational in French, with a foundational knowledge in Spanish and Slovak. I also love linguistics and am working on achieving a TEFL qualification. These experiences allow me to have a deeper understanding of your various needs and struggles as a language learner.

Phong cách dạy & bài học của tôi

My lessons are informal and conversation-based. We will structure each lesson to your specific requirements as a learner, with focus on fluid communication and confidence in speaking. I am open to all levels of learners, from absolute beginners to intermediate students. Spending a lot of time with ESOL speakers also allows me to tailor my teaching style to the usual mistakes of students’ various native languages. The typical lesson will include conversation, with focus targeting certain aspects of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, or any other challenging element of English as it becomes relevant. I hope to hear from you, and look forward to being a part of your English language journey!

Antonia is the best teacher I've ever had and I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their English speaking-skills as well as their grammar. Antonia is a very patient and understanding teacher, even when I make the same mistakes repeatedly. She corrects me gently every time, while acknowledging my efforts and encouraging me to persevere. Antonia has a lot of experience with students of different nationalities, and that comes across clearly in our lessons where she effortlessly predicts my thoughts and helps me to articulate my ideas. This is particularly helpful when we practise speaking and my mind goes blank! I' m looking forward to my next lessons with Antonia!

My favourite teacher !!!! I don't feel like I'm practicing my English in every conversation, but I feel like I'm being soothed by someone. Every time I want to say something, no matter what and whenever I want to say it, Antonia will say go ahead. She encourages me every time, no matter if I have made a strange decision in reality or if I have found a new word in English. She corrects every little mistake in every sentence, is very patient and tireless in helping me. I've been practising English with her for over 2 years now, and although it's been sporadic, I feel a great sense of achievement after each lesson, no matter if I'm happy or unhappy beforehand. I haven't been speaking much English for a while now, but after today's lesson, I feel confident again. Because someone is listening to you and helping you. I love Antonia so much, I've spoken to so many people and had so many lessons. But Antonia is the most comfortable person I can talk to and practice with. I'm really lucky!!!!

I've been practicing my English with Antonia for a while now, and it's been an absolute joy. She's a true expert, swift to note my errors and help me clean them up, yet our sessions feel like I'm just chatting with a friend. We can discuss anything, and I'm always left feeling more confident and better equipped. I can't recommend her enough.
