Roselle

I've had the privilege of working with Roselle for several lessons now, and I can only say great things about my experience with her. Cebuano is a "heart language" for those of us who speak it and/or were raised in it, but it can sometimes be considered a second-class language (and culture!) in the Philippines compared to Tagalog. Furthermore, it is not as often taught formally in school, and a lot of Cebuano literature, music, and media can go overlooked. My experience of Roselle is as a teacher who is also passionate about Cebuano as such a "heart language", who also delights in the regional idiosyncrasies of the various Cebuano dialects, and who treats it both with the seriousness it deserves, and the levity it so often conveys and is known for! In my experience on iTalki and elsewhere, this is hard to find, and I count myself blessed to be learning from her. Magpadayon jud ko ug kat-on sa iyaha!

I’ve taken two classes with Roselle so far, and I can really say I’m enjoying them and getting so much out of them! She prepared challenging exercises after assessing my level/background, and knew how to push me to the next level. Her exercises and homework are structured, practical, relevant, and fun. She also provides constructive and encouraging feedback. Way duda na mag-book ko usab sa iyaha!

Roselle was really kind and I had loads of fun learning with her. The presentation was very effective(and pretty lol), and I felt like she chose useful phrases for my trial lesson. Sometimes people will give you outdated stuff from a textbook, but Roselle even explained the cultural context of when to use certain phrases. I booked a 60min lesson because the 30mins went by so fast. My friend from the Philippines will be so surprised when we chat later haha

Nalate ko sa atong klase pero padayon man pud si Roselle sa materyals that she prepared. Sa atong 30 mins nga class, we covered some homework, reading, word association activity, and encouraged me nga magpugos (to use words and phrases I know to think for myself). Was also a fun class. Salamat kaayo Roselle sa klase! 🙏🏼

Lingaw kaayo, practical ug useful pud ang mga leksyon ug exercise. Makakita jud ko ug asenso sa akoang pagkat-on. Hali na ug ayaw’g paglangay sa pagbook kay Roselle!

Sa klase nato, I learned some Cebuano slang, exampol, chada. I also did a reading. Roselle is good at explaining, giving examples, and giving context to certain words. Looking forward sa next nga klase! 🙏🏼
