Hello! I'm Matt. I'm from the United Kingdom and I love helping people to learn English. I’ve been on Italki for more almost five years, working with a huge range of students. Whatever you need and wherever you’re from, I’m sure that I can help.
Since studying at the University of Cambridge, I've lived all over the world. I've worked in universities and language schools in China, Italy, and South Korea. My other job is as the editor of Interpret, a magazine of international literature, and my own poetry is widely published, so I'm certain I can help with your writing!
Please send me a message if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
Tôi với tư cách là giáo viên
I'm friendly, relaxed, and I tailor each lesson to the student. As you can see from my reviews, I care about the quality of my classes. I'm happy to say that each of my students takes an average of nine lessons with me, and my most regular students have taken between 50 and 150 classes each!

I offer three types of lesson...
1) Intermediate and Advanced Conversation: My conversation lessons are tailored to your interests and needs. I always provide feedback and corrections, so even the most advanced students can improve.
2) Writing: Want to practice IELTS or TOEFL essays? Need help with work emails? Or are you simply writing for pleasure? Bring 300-500 words and we'll work on them together. Outside Italki, I'm a professional editor and poet, so I'm sure that I can help you with your objectives.
3) Freeform: Whatever you need, I'm here to help. All you have to do is send me a message to explain your goals. Recent examples include preparing for job interviews and examinations.

Matt is an excellent teacher. He takes great care in preparing for classes, he is a joy to talk to and he also gives amazing writing advice that goes far beyond simply learning English and the common structures used in standardised tests like IELTS.
I’m sure he can help many students on different levels and I believe he is one of the (few) people that are especially helpful for those already advanced yet still interested in improving their skills.
Above all, Matt is a great person. He has many interests and it seems to me that it is quite impossible to have something other than the most engaging conversation ever with him.
Thank you Matt!

Thanks to Matt I was able to get a very high mark in the IELTS exam, especially in the writing and speaking sections. I recommend Matt for all students sitting the IELTS in the future!

It was a fantastic experience and first class. The conversation flow was great, Matt was genuinely interested in making me speak confidentely, keeping the conversation friendly and easy. He corrected mistakes as appropriate, and provided really good examples and explanations on language /words origins.
Our lesson with Matt was excellent. We identified our goals, and throughout the class, Matt consistently connected his feedback to those goals. He has a great personality and is truly a skilled professional.

At the blink of an eye, I've had eight classes with Matt now. We've been talking about poetry, writing, and even collaborating on translations of my poems! I hadn't anticipated this kind of dialogue, which made me believe more and more in poetry as a world language.
One thing i find really precious about Matt's class is that he is genuinely interested in others' thoughts, experiences and cultures. (Perhaps that's what motivated him to grow into a polyglot?)Based on that, his questions not only inspire me to express myself in English, but also reflect on myself from a transcultural view.
