Language is an integral part of culture and I want to help people feel confident in their connection to their Yoruba identity by helping them improve their spoken Yoruba.
Do you currently feel self-conscious when speaking Yoruba to family and friends?
Do you desperately want to improve your pronunciation?
Are you in or intend to travel to Nigeria in the near future and want to arm yourself to speak to extended family and perhaps the sellers in the local market?
And do you prefer learning with a teacher who is patient, encouraging and supportive?
I am Mojisola, a 32-year-old Yoruba native from Lagos. I enjoy meeting new people, writing and watching movies.

Tôi với tư cách là giáo viên
I have taught Yoruba to persons from all across the world - starting from Sam, an Indian American friend of my brother's who moved to Nigeria in 2017 - and have experience teaching all ages. I have been a professional teacher since 2015, teaching people of all ages.
Whether you are new to the Yoruba language and are a total beginner, or you are looking to gain confidence with your conversation skills, I am here to work with you, at your pace, and in as much time as you need. I encourage you to make mistakes and will provide a safe space for your growth.
I look forward to meeting and knowing you!
Phong cách dạy & bài học của tôi
I have been told that my main superpower is empathy. I am a native Yoruba speaker, but I do not assume that words, phrases and syntaxes comes naturally to everyone in the same way. We will start with your objectives (e.g "to be able to have a 1hr conversation with my mom in 2 months with >50% Yoruba words used"). Then I step in your shoes and work with you step by step to get you there.
I like the conversational style that unconsciously and consciously involves people in the language deeply. I will not waste your time by teaching you the Yoruba alphabets and diacritics (unless you want to learn to write) or teach you words you won't use day-to-day (unless you are at intermediate level).

The perfect teacher! I was a little worried about starting Yoruba lessons, but the teacher is so patient, clear, and helpful that I don't feel intimidated or nervous. She makes the lessons fun, and she goes over what I'm learning as much as I need. Thank you!

I was pleased with this lesson. I am trying the italki beta AI program. Results pending. We went into Yoruba in depth. This is more than I have done in the past. I was introduced to tenses and some grammatical nuances. I am hoping our lesson was preserved. The function of ‘ti’ was introduced. Meanwhile vocabulary is growing. I only wish that the accent marks could be used more. These are clearly not as important for native speakers who know pronunciation by context, but for an adult learner it is important to add the dimension of correct tone to words and this discipline should be learned early.. also I am realizing that I am missing some important words for communication from my previous lessons (ie connectors/ ati vs de) which are very important.
