Something amazing happened with my son’s Chinese last week that really surprised us! We walked into a Chinese restaurant, and he not only ordered our food entirely in Chinese but even struck up a conversation with some of the other Chinese speakers there! We couldn’t be prouder. He said he felt confident thanks to Lydia’s lessons, where they cover all sorts of topics using fun videos, pictures, and structured practice. Now, he’s also getting more interested in reading Chinese characters. He loves how Lydia uses pictures, stories, and games to make characters stick. I've been studying with Lydia for over a year now, and I can easily say it was one of the best decisions I've made to improve my Chinese. From the start, Lydia has been extremely adaptable to my individual needs as a student, and has continuously made an effort to keep the material fresh, interesting, and suitable to my learning level in each lesson. When I first started learning with Lydia I could mostly just repeat fixed phrases in conversion, but after a year I've become much more comfortable speaking Chinese than I ever thought possible. Her encouragement and gentle corrections have pushed me to constantly make improvements and redouble my efforts outside of class. I can wholeheartedly recommend Lydia to anyone who would like to take their Chinese to the next level.

I've been working with Lydia for almost a year since I downloaded HelloChinese on a whim and started learning basic mandarin. In the first lesson I could barely form simple sentences and my pronunciation was poor. We started from the basics of pinyin, going through initials + finals and mixing in some speaking practice. After making it through pinyin we skipped straight to the HSK2 curriculum. All the lessons have been great so far - I've become a lot more confident in my (rudimentary) speaking abilities and she's mixed in a lot of interesting content about Chinese holidays and culture. In each lesson she writes down all the new vocabulary in a PDF that she sends after which makes it really easy to refer to it later, or turn in to Anki cards. A year later, the content is harder, butI still feel like I'm making steady progress. Her lessons have become an enjoyable part of my weekly routine and I am really thankful for her patience and encouragement in my Chinese learning journey!

Lydia gives me homework that helps me memorize new vocabulary and remember different grammatical structures. The class and the content taught in the class are entertaining and engaging.
