Looking back at my own schooling, the memory of stern, results-focused teachers still looms large—those whose approach we might recall less than fondly. I have my teaching degree from Norway and worked as a teacher in Norway after I graduated from college. I also worked several years in the USA as a teacher teaching grades 1-3. Since 2012 I have worked as a Norwegian teacher at Madison College in Madison Wisconsin. I also teach Norwegian for the US Air Force online and do Norwegian tutoring in person and online.

Based on your goals I will make an individual curriculum that focus on what you need to learn in order to master the Norwegian language at a level that you need to succeed.

I focus on using the language, and my goal is to have natural contexts and natural usage of the language.

Norwegian Intensive Courses for levels A1, A2 and B1, B2 | Norwegian Lessons I teach intensive courses in Norwegian. The next round of intensive courses starts in March/April. There is a mini intensive, as well as a full intensive course. I do not have a single approach to teaching because all of my students are different, but whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I will adapt my teaching style to your needs. For the intensive courses I take a traditional approach to teaching, I use a textbook in combination with online exercises, but I am flexible in my teaching methods and willing to work with your learning style.

Whatever your goals are, I'll do everything I can to help you reach them :) As a teacher, my aim is to encourage you, be patient, and understanding. My main goal is to help you learn a language effectively and at your own pace, while also enjoying the entirety of the process. Having fun is part of learning too :) Still, an important part of mastering any language, is the amount of effort you put in. Not just in terms of the lessons themselves, but the work you do outside them. That could be reading, listening to podcasts or watching TV shows. Just taking lessons will make the road to mastering either Norwegian or English arduous.

Teacher with an adventurous soul As I learned Spanish as an adult, I understand the journey of learning a new language, the fear of speaking out loud and saying anything wrong. But I also know that that is the way to learn, from our mistakes. I will make you feel comfortable right away, I am very outgoing, and I always try and find common ground so we can get to know each other! I tend to be a bit humorous when it comes to understanding and looking at not only Norwegian but cultural characteristics in general. Since I have a good ear for languages and after living abroad for a long time, I can help you create bridges and memorize words, phrases, and sentences based on cultural similarities.

Friendly and engaged conversation teacher I know what language learning feels like, because I have been through it myself. I speak English and Spanish fluently, and I am learning French at the moment. I know what it feels like to stumble for words or forget the correct way to conjugate a word, so I am a patient and friendly teacher who will help you feel comfortable speaking Norwegian. As a teacher I focus on creating a comfortable atmosphere for the student, where you can make mistakes without worrying. I like to have informal conversations about whatever the student wants to talk about, of course in Norwegian. Any speaking practice is good!

Trøndersk dialect (Trondheim/Trøndelag area) I want to make you comfortable with making mistakes. My priority is making the process enjoyable and fun, instead of making it school-like and boring. I believe in Stephen Krashen's way of acquiring languages (like babies do). If you learned English as your second language, I will try my best to replicate that process.
