* a man HAS been arrested. One man, so it’s singular A man was arrested = timeless, it could have happened anytime, it’s a past event and is no longer happening A man has been arrested by the police = it happened in the past but is either still happening now or is relevant now Do you remember that bank robbery last year? A man was arrested by the police. There’s just been a bank robbery. A man has been arrested by the police and is currently answering their questions about the crime.

The two sentences have different verb tenses, and one of them contains a mistake. Here's the breakdown: 1. "A man was arrested by the police" * This is correct. It uses the past simple tense, which is appropriate when talking about something that happened and is completed in the past. 2. "A man have been arrested by the police" * This is incorrect. The subject "a man" is singular, so you should use "has" instead of "have." * The correct sentence is: "A man has been arrested by the police." This is the present perfect tense, which is used when the action has recently happened or has relevance to the present. Summary: * "A man was arrested" (past event, completed). * "A man has been arrested" (recent event, connected to the present). Both tenses are appropriate depending on the context, but ensure the verb agrees with the subject.

The correct sentence is "A man was arrested by the police." Here's why: Past simple tense: The sentence describes a completed action in the past. "Was arrested" is the correct past simple form of the verb "to arrest." Past perfect tense: "Have been arrested" is incorrect in this context. The past perfect tense is used to talk about an action that happened before another action in the past. It would be correct if the sentence were something like, "The man had been arrested before he confessed to the crime." Therefore, "A man was arrested by the police" is the grammatically correct and appropriate sentence.
