It's not going to change much in 12 years, technology will advance a lot farther, people will be better off economically, and probably a few other things. 1998 wasn't that different.

World war 3 will have happened by then because as much as people say world peace we should all live together blah blah blah, there are simply too many people on the planet and growing. We are running out of space and of resources (mainly food and jobs). I understand many religions promote having many kids, but people for the sake of the world stop having kids. Tensions are already running high between many many many countries so the best we can do is to COOPERATE. Anyone suggesting that cooperation never works go take a look at some game theory, Nash equilibrium. Sorry, so to answer your question: I plan on living in a mud hut after the nuclear winter kills off 65% of the human population. :).
