They led students to participate in some fun activities. They did eye exercises ,learned Chinese paper-cutting, made dumplings, and played traditional Chinese games together. These activities helped students better understand Chinese culture and the Chinese way of thinking.Besides,Chinese teachers also began to slow down their teaching. In other words,, they put away the absolute authority of themselves. When the teachers changed from strict to encouraging, some of the students who were originally naughty began to make changes. They performed better in class than before. Some of them even revised long into the night the day before exams. At the graduation, the principal announced the results of exams, the average score of students in Chinese education was 10 points higher than that of students in British education. In this competition, Chinese education won.But it’s hard to say which education system is better. As the principal said,“We probably do need a longer day at school. But do we really want children working 15,16 hours a day? That, to me, doesn’t really sound like childhood. That,to me, sounds like prison.”

Chinese School(中式学校) In 2015, the BBC made a documentary named Are Our Kids Tough Enough?Chinese School.Five teachers from China came to a British school and taught 50 British students one month with Chinese education. After 4 weeks, the students in the Chinese school were tested against their British counterparts. In this month, a series of conflict between the Chinese and British cultures, the educational systems ,and the educational concept became the main theme throughout the documentary. The first thing Chinese teachers did was to start “old routines” that have almost become the norm in Chinese primary and secondary schools: the flag-rising ceremony, the morning exercise, and the uniform. Ms. Yang and Mr. Zou pointed out that the flag-raising ceremony was “a manifestation of a sense of belonging” and through it, a “sense of national pride” was “born”.They thought the morning exercise was a way to train collective sense .And they saw the uniform as a tool to erase students’ learning ability and family background in external. But students saw the uniform as a restriction on their personality.Luca said“I don’t like it. It feels so odd for me.”“Look! They are basically parachutes” For Chinese students, the teacher had absolute authority. But this was unreasonable for British students who studied in a free environment .The students, represented by Sophie, believed that doing their own things in the classroom was a matter of personal freedom.Although Teacher Yang emphasized classroom discipline over and over again, students didn’t care about it . She felt so exhausted that she started crying. Besides, the Chinese school day was a 12 hour marathon. It’s almost twice as long in class as their British counterparts. And teachers delivered the knowledge by just writing on board in a very traditional fashion. Many students had difficulty adapting, and some of them even skipped class. Faced with these situations, the Chinese teachers decided to make a change .
