How do you choose your teacher here on italki? (It's not just about learning Russian)

How do you choose your language tutor?

What do you pay attention to when reading teachers' profiles and watching their video presentations? Or maybe you think, watching their videos is not useful at all?

Everybody seems to write only very positive comments about each and every teacher, how is it possible to make decision which tutor is better for you?

During your first language session with a teacher, how do you know that the teacher doesn't suit you?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

I do check the number of students and classes given already, so returning students has an important role when I am choosing a teacher!

I like watching the videos, it gives me more confidence when choosing that teacher.

During the first session can be a little hard to evaluate the teacher, especially because it's when you're meeting him or her and in case you are looking for a sort of structured session, then you should try one or twice more. But some things I take into consideration! If it's an engaging teacher, that knows how to talk, smile and make me comfortable. I'm very extrovert and communicative, shy, serious and reserved personalities wouldn't meet my expectations, unless I am looking for more serious and focused type of sessions, like, analysing a text, grammar or exercises, then the teacher doesn't need to be an extrovert peson, but needs to know how to teach, guide and explain.

In the end, it's all about trying! I know that I like a teacher when by the end the session I feel satisfied and feel that I have taken and learnt something positive!

I watch the videos. Teachers, this is your 60 seconds to shine! I look at their availability; if their schedule matches mine, it's good. I also calculate the returning students, but don't necessarily rule then out on those grounds, particularly if they're a new teacher.
