Cuando hablamos de globalización resulta imprescindible reconocer la gran trascendencia que ha tenido a lo largo de la historia, posterior a la segunda guerra mundial, época en la que decidieron unirse esfuerzos para una mayor apertura económica y política principalmente.

Hoy en día es impensable imaginar un mundo no globalizado, gente no conectada, empresas no vinculadas a la tecnología, desaparición de culturas emergentes surgidas a partir de la fusión con otras o la transculturización, entre tantos otros escenarios que reflejan la globalización en nuestro tiempo.

¿Resulta cuestionable pensar si estamos más a merced de las consecuencias de la globalización?

¿LA GLOBALIZACIÓN NOS HACE MÁS VULNERABLES?

みなさんはもう衣替えをしましたか？最近、寒くなってきたので、そろそろ衣替えをしようかなと考えている人が多いかもしれません。衣替えというのは、今着ている服を季節に合った服に入れ替えることをいいます。つまり、夏服をクローゼットにしまって、冬服を出すことです。
私は１ヶ月ほど前に衣替えをしました。半袖のTシャツやズボン、薄いジャケットをクローゼットにしまいました。そして、厚いジャケットやコート、セーターを出しました。
今年は電気代やガス代が高くなるそうなので、家の中でも暖かい服を着て、なるべくヒーターやストーブを使わずに過ごしたいと思います。
皆さんは、冬を暖かく過ごすために何かしていることはありますか？

季節に合った服：the clothes for the season
しまう：put away
厚い：あつい　thick

So when I was deciding which topic to focus on for our second episode I really only needed to look at what the people I work with are actually asking for. One of the most common topics that I discuss with people is presentations. Presentations can be great opportunities to use those English skills that you work so hard on, but they also have their own stresses and challenges. Today we’re going to look at some vocabulary that you might hear when watching a presentation and some that you might want to use when giving your own. At the end we also have our 'big discussion question' to help you with your speaking practice. You can find the vocabulary from this podcast in the vocabulary sets on my profile. What comes into your mind to hear see-through acrylic plate partition?
What comes into my mind is one of ｍeasures against coronavirus.
A lot of see-through acrylic plate partition were used until this May.
Otherwise, they are started to remove since this May 8th in Japan.

みなさんは、透明のアクリル板と聞いたら、何を思い出しますか。
私は、コロナ感染予防のパーテーションを思い出します。
２０２０年に始まったコロナ。　感染すると重症化したり、ひどければ命を落とすこともあるコロナ。　そのため、さまざまな感染予防対策が取られました。
それが、今年、２０２３年の５月に　季節性インフルエンザなどと同じ扱いになりました。　
コロナの感染予防対策には、予防接種、マスク、手洗いうがいの励行などがありましたが、「アクリル板のパーテーション」の使用もありました。これは、飛沫防止対策として使われていました。　実は、今も病院や役所の受付、スーパーのレジなど不特定多数の人が対面する場所には　設置されています。　一番コロナが流行っていたころから、今年の５月までは、会社のオフィスやレストランなどでも使われていました。　
日本の多くの会社では、社員の机は　部署ごとに　ぴったり引っ付けて並べてあります。
向かい合わせに置かれた机が　横にいくつか並びます。　その机と机の間に余分なスペースはありません。　咳やくしゃみ、あるいは　話すときに飛ぶ唾液などが　飛び散らないようにする必要がありました。そこで、登場したのが　透明のアクリル板のパーテーションでした。　透明なので　顔は見えますが、アクリル板１枚が間に入るだけで、声は届きにくくなりました。　加えて、みんなマスクをしているので、口元が見えませんし、表情も読みにくくなっていました。　食堂やレストランにも、このアクリル板のパーテーションが置かれていました。　食事のときは、マスクをはずすので、「黙食（もくしょく）」が奨励されました。「黙食」とは、だまって食事をすることです。アクリル板があってもです。
それが、今年５月　とうとう　感染対策を緩めることになり、アクリル板が取り除かれ始めました。　透明とはいえ、空間が遮られることで圧迫感がありましたが、取り除かれると　同じスペースでも広く感じました。　不要になったアクリル板をどうするかという問題が起こりました。　それで、この行き場のなくなったアクリル板をただ捨ててしまうのはもったいないということで、リサイクルが進められています。例えば、駅の案内板のカバーや、パスケースなどです。　
パーテーションに使われたアクリル板が　いろいろなものに変身して　私たちの身近なところで　使われているんですね。　もう二度と、コロナ予防のために使われる日が来ないことを祈りたいと思います。
