Learning words requires becoming friends with the new word. You must get to know the meaning, the sound and the feeling.

3) We create a gesture to represent the new word (kinaesthetic learning)

🌱 Story Class 1. – Mini Stories (Vocabulary)

Do you want to improve all of your English skills? Big Stories is perfect for you. 

In this class you will 1) create an entire story from start to finish and 2) get study materials. 

Students love this class because they see their ideas made into a creative story.

After this class, you will get your story: READING (PDF) and LISTENING (MP3). 

The story is 80% my words. The story is over 2000 words. The audiobook is between 7 - 10 minutes long.

Story Class helps students feel relaxed, inspired and happy. Students focus on the meaning of their story, not the language. This approach aligns with how decades of research says we learn languages. 

Don't worry if you don't have a story idea. I'm passionate about making stories. I will support you and help you. Students always have wonderful ideas.

This class is for students who have made stories and want to read and edit them. 

This class is also for current students who want to have a conversation.

I've been a professional teacher since 2017. I've experimented with using multiple methods and strategies to improve student confidence, enjoyment and proficiency. 

Since discovering Story Class in 2020, I've found that it is the most reliable, stress-free, efficient and effective teaching method. As a general method, it engages every student, helping to create meaningful experiences in the language. 

For the teacher, Story Class dramatically reduces class preparation time and significantly simplifies what we do in the class. All that is needed is to know the principles of effective language acquisition and to develop interpersonal skills to execute an effective Story Class. 


This workshop is open to teachers of any language. 

In this workshop, we will discuss how language are learnt, how this informs our best teaching practices, and how we can implement these best practices.

I will guide you through making stories with your students, using methods I've learnt from Ben Slavic's The Square and the Star (www.benslavic.com) 

Booking one class gives you two sessions: an input/conversation session and an observation session. It also gives you ongoing teacher training support as you implement Story Class.

🌻 LANGUAGE ACQUISITION 🌻 - HOW TO LEARN A LANGUAGE

Here I taught environmental studies at beginner to intermediate level. 
There was a strong focus on academic writing and university preparation. 

In this role I had extensive practice of traditional English teaching methods

Here I taught advanced general English classes. 
At this school I started a comprehensible input class in response to the mismatch between student and textbook. In this class, we purely focused on creating stories, with no direct focus on word lists or grammar. The students loved it and it completely changed my approach to teaching.

Ben Slavic is a nationally recognized TPRS and Comprehensible Input expert who is the author of numerous best-selling books, audio and video programs. 

In this course, I focused on understanding the Second Language Acquisition. I used many research-informed practices, including slow communication, gesturing and story making. 

The focus of this course was to develop story making skills and understand why they work so well.

I have taught teachers how to practice Comprehensible Input. This has involved teaching them about the Second Language Acquisition research and helping them use research-informed skills, such as: 

-slow speech
-gesturing
-how to address vocabulary and grammar acquisition 
-story making 

In this role, I helped teachers understand that language acquisition is a low, natural process in which students need to feel valued as a member of the community and in which their ideas are important.
